​Cleaning Tips To Obliterate Germs in Your Home

1. Start with your washing machine! – Although you might thing your machine is a clean place, think again!  When you place dirty laundry into your washer it can bring with it bacteria and viruses. Not all bacteria or viruses will be destroyed by normal soap.  Our best advice is to wash your washer empty with a cup of bleach and hot water at least once a week.  This will kill the bacteria and viruses that hang out there.  
2. Bathroom Towels and Workout Towels are Next! – Not everyone gets a new towel for every occasion. However, the best way to keep germs at bay is to wash them after each use.  Bath towels, as long as they are used by one person, can be washed less frequently.  If someone is sick in the household, it is best to clean more frequently.  Hand towels should be changed out everyt ime you have guests.  Finally, use the sun to help destroy bacteria. UV light does wonders.​
3. Next up is the bedroom! – Make sure you are washing those bed sheets once a week in hot water!  To avoid more microbes from building up in your bedroom, keep food out of the bedroom.  Food crumbs can provide a nice place for mold and bacteria to duplicate.
4. Address your common areas – A family room or other room where people spend the most time in your home will likely have the higher level of viruses and bacteria in it.  To keep the level down, use disinfectant wipes for your switches, remotes, tables, telephones and more.  Gently wipe off electronic equipment and be sure to dust regularly. Dust is a perfect home for bacteria and viruses.  If you spill something, clean it up right away. Don’t give the germs a chance to find it.
5. Don’t forget your staircase and doors! – Be sure to sanitize your doorknobs, light switches, banisters and cabinets.   If someone is sick in your family, do this more often to keep viruses like the flu and Covid 19 at bay.
6. Did you know Computers are especially vulnerable to germs? – Keyboards and phones are shown to have a plethora of microbes on them if not sanitized properly.  Be sure to vacuum out your keyboard spaces and sanitize the keys. Don’t forget the mouse!
7. Sanitize everything AND the kitchen sink!  The kitchen sink can hold an immeasurable amount of germs. It has been said to be the second most germy place in a house.  If you have a sponge in your kitchen, this is your number one culprit for germs.  Scrub your sink with disinfecting agent and microwave your sponge each day (we recommend two minutes) to help kill any bacteria and other germs.
8. Wipe down your flat surfaces – Flat areas are notorious for accumulating dust and debris.  Be sure to wash your counters daily with hot water and bleach. Dust your horizontal surfaces in other places of the house.  Do not place mail, purses and other items on your counters to help keep them germ free!
9. When is the last time you sanitized your refrigerator?  Wash the inside shelves and walls of your refrigerator every couple of months.  You can use bleach and water to sanitize and a mix of vinegar and water to help keep smells at bay.  Clean up any spills immediately.
10. What would a de-germing article be like if we didn’t mention bathrooms?  Use warm water, soap and ammonia to clean your tub, sink, shower and floors.  If you have a shower, use a squeegee to remove water deposits that ultimately can collect dust, germs and mold from the air.

Our final tip?  Be sure to flush with the lid down. When you flush with the lid up, the water can actually spray the toilet contents into your bathroom and even on your toothbrush!  Eew!    Keep the lid down and clean that thing at least once a week!
