1. Vacuum - Vacuum with the brush or upholstery attachment to clean all the crumbs and loose debris off of your sofa.  Don't forget the cracks! Use the vacuum cleaner with the crevice tool to remove the pet hair and food crumbs from the areas that are hard to reach.   Be sure to remove the sofa cushions and clean underneath.  You might find that a lint roller is helpful to get rid of pet hair if the vacuum does not have a good pet hair removal attachment piece.

2. Clean Everything! -  Don't just ignore the wood and metal areas of the sofa that are not seen. They can attract soils and food spills too.  It is important to clean these areas.  Wipe down all wood and metal parts of your sofa.

3. Find out what fabric your sofa is made from. - Before you do anything (and before our carpet cleaning services begin), you need to make sure you know what type of sofa material you're dealing with.  All sofas and furniture will come with a tag with the materials that the piece of furniture is made from.  Some may even have instructions on how to clean your sofa so you don't have to wonder.   It is important to read the tags thoroughly so you know what type of cleaning care is acceptable for your piece of furniture.  Furniture may come with cleaning codes such as:

1. S - Dry cleaning detergent only
2. X - Do not use water, only use a vacuum
3. W - Water is safe to use when cleaning
4. WS - Dry cleaning or mild detergent is acceptable when using a steam carpet cleaning tool. 

4. Stain Removal Process -  If you know how to clean the sofa and remove the stain, then you can go ahead and do this process yourself.  Remember to spot test in an inconspicuous area if you are uncertain of a new detergent or cleaning solution.    You can choose to use our carpet cleaning services in Franklin TN (we come to you if you live near Franklin or a surrounding area) or you can choose to use a commercial cleaner that is sold in stores.  Homemade cleaners may be an option too if you dare to try them.
